ALCHEMISTS "Chapter One : Love"

OUT ON TENACITY MUSIC

New heavy stuff from Switzerland's french speaking part of the country.

BON IVER "Blood Bank Ep 10th Anniversary Edition"

OUT ON JAGJAGUWAR

Bon Iver's Blood Bank EP was originally released in early 2009, hot on the heels of the beloved album 'For Emma, Forever Ago'. The EP was a harbinger of a new sound for Bon Iver: a movement away from the acoustic guitar-led instrumentation of the debut and the beginning of an exploration into the experimental sounds that have evolved but defined Bon Iver ever since. The reissue of this seminal EP is coupled with brand new live renditions of all the EP tracks.

CABLE TIES "Far Enough"

OUT ON MERGE RECORDS

The second album from Melbourne, Australia’s Cable Ties brings a towering wall of ’70s hard rock and proto-punk to songs that explore hope, despair, and anger but offer no easy answers. Cable Ties’ fundamental elements—a driving rhythm section, anxious and emotive guitar playing, defiant, passionate songwriting, and Jenny McKechnie’s earthshaking voice—are complicated on Far Enough by nuance and ambivalence.

MATT ELLIOTT "Farewell Zo All We Know"

OUT ON ICI D'AILLEURS

This new record by Matt is without a doubt his best album to date, a record that takes him into another dimension where he fully asserts himself as a songwriter and singer of the calibre of artists like Bill Callahan, Leonard Cohen or Johnny Cash.

FACS "Void Moments"

OUT ON  TROUBLE IN MIND RECORDS

Chicago trio FACS have evolved very quickly in the span of their three year existence. "Void Moments" is their third & latest offering; a dark & claustrophobic album with rivulets of seismic beauty peeking through the din.

GOLD CAGE "Social Crutch"

OUT ON FELT RECORDS.

'Social Crutch' is the debut full-length album of Los Angeles-based post-punk-tinged slow-core trio Gold Cage. Comprised of singer/bassist Mony Katz, singer/guitarist Cole Devine, and drummer Sage Ross, the band combines dreamy guitar loops, delicate, dueling vocals, and slow, driving tempos to create spacious arrangements that shimmer with atmosphere.

JACASZEK "Music For Film"

OUT ON GHOSTLY.

Jacaszek’s work is that of an auteur; he has signatures that he uses faithfully and with much aplomb. Listeners can expect subtle gesture and baroque grandeur on Music For Films: soaring melodies cloaked in reverberation, delicate piano ruminations, and textural craftwork capable of creating and disrupting motifs, smothering and enchanting minds.

MAGHREB K7 CLUB: Synth Raï, Chaoui & Staifi 1985-1997

OUT ON LES DISQUES BONGO JOE

Most of Lyon’s musical scene is composed of men originating from eastern Algeria, but since the 1950s, the Croix-Rousse and Guillotière cafés have counted musicians from all over Maghreb. These cafés were social hubs, where these individuals met up weekly, playing together and sharing their everyday life experience —but they also had a major role in the development of popular music of French-based North Africans. In Lyon, Le But Café in the 3rd arrondissement or the bars on Sébastien Gryphe Street in the 7th arrondissement were among these: one could conduct business there, getting booked for a wedding, a baptism, a gala, or a studio session... all took place there.

MAGIC SWORD "Endless"

OUT ON JOYFUL NOISE RECORDINGS

Magic Sword is an ageless tale of good and evil told through an ever expanding graphic novel with each volume accompanied by an original, synth-heavy soundtrack as well as immersive live performances. With the three mediums intertwined from conception, together they create an epic experience for those bold enough to bear witness and come away with a deeper understanding of the ultimate hero’s journey. Armed with a musical and visual aesthetic that has its roots unabashedly buried deep in the golden era of ‘70s and ‘80s fantasy and sci-fi, Magic Sword’s followers are called to another plane of existence where the struggle between light and shadow becomes all too real. The multiverse has aligned to bring the people of the land together for the birth of their album Endless, followed by a tour of the realm searching for the greater good.

MAMALEEK "Come And See"

OUT ON FLENSER RECORDS

On “Come & See” Mamaleek seek to weaponize the tropes of blues, jazz and black metal through an understanding of their respective formal structures. Known for flouting genre conventions, the band’s newest album marks yet another degree of separation from their metal roots. Here Mamaleek draws inspiration from post-war public housing—specifically Chicago’s notorious Cabrini Green housing project—seeking to analyze the emotional impact of the spaces we occupy, the surreal forces behind the appearance of physical reality, and the residues they leave behind. “Come and See” is the band’s third full-length LP for The Flenser, and their first release written and recorded with a full band.

HAILU MERGIA "Yene Mircha"

OUT ON AWESOME TAPES FROM AFRICA

Hailu Mergia. The man is such a joy to work with, to be perfectly honest and earnest. His work is inspiring to me, but also his attitude. He knows what he’s about and he makes his way through the world in a confident but unassuming manner. And he absolutely gives it his all onstage, all over the world, all the time, most likely every time.

MUMRUNNER "Valeriana"

OUT ON THROUGH LOVE RECORDS

After 2 EPs and several Soundcloud singles the Finnish Shoegaze/Dreampop Band Mumrunner is ready to unleash their album debut.
Valeriana means the better immunity for us after all the hassle and troubles we’ve been through during the past two years. Our lineup changed 2/4 during the album’s making process. Nothing dramatic behind the scenes, but the timings for that were shitty. Luckily the new singer & guitarist, Michael and new drummer, Senni has both taken their places in a band very nicely, and we can say, we’re feeling great now with an album and our current situation.

NAP EYES "Snapshot of a Beginner"

OUT ON JAGJAGUWAR

This one's for the procrastinators and the slow learners. This one's for the bungled and the botched, for the fumbled and humbled. This one's for the late bloomers, and ultimately, Nap Eyes latest full length Snapshot of a Beginner is proof that sometimes, the late bloomers bloom brightest.

GREGORIO PANIAGUA "Batiscafo" REISSUE

REISSUED ON MUNSTER RECORDS

Gregorio Paniagua embarked on a solo project, moving from the Classical to the Pop Department at Hispavox. He shut himself off from the world every night for a whole month to record “Batiscafo”. Assisted solely by a sound technician at the controls of the latest mixing desk, his instruments and brilliant inventiveness, he managed to create this gem: a record that seeks to emulate Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells and which vanished all too soon, becoming the Holy Grail of Spanish experimental music. “Batiscafo” anticipated a wave of avant-garde Spanish music in the 80s with key figures such as Suso Sáiz, Pep Llopis, Ishinoana or Finis Africae who are now being rediscovered and admired outside Spain.

SORRY "925"

OUT ON DOMINO MUSIC.

Best friends Asha Lorenz and Louis O’Bryen have woven 925 like a dreamscape in which idyllic and hellish scenes intermingle, forcing the question of what is real and what is make believe. Inspired by everything from Hermann Hesse to Dean Blunt and old-school crooner Tony Bennett, the duo’s experimental and holistic approach marks them out as a thoroughly 21st century band. Includes the singles "Starstruck", "Right Round The Clock" and "More".

SPOTLIGHTS "We Are All Atomic"

OUT ON BLUES FUNERAL RECORDS.

Heavy, dreamy, sweeping and atmospheric, Spotlights blend shoegaze and doom metal on their new post-nuclear EP.

With the massive impact of their 2017 Ipecac debut and tours with The Melvins and The Deftones, Spotlights secured a place in the heavy music consciousness with their crushing, dreamy and atmospheric blend of shoegaze and doom-metal. Following acclaimed 2019 album 'Love and Decay,' the band return with the boundary-pushing 'We Are All Atomic' EP to further validate the majesty of what they do.

SUFJAN STEVENS & LOWELL BRAMS "Aporia"

OUT ON ASTHMATIC KITTY RECORDS.

Aporia is a New Age album from Sufjan Stevens and his step-father and record label co-owner, Lowell Brams. The 21 songs on Aporia are tightly crafted, resonating with a gem-like intensity, made in the spirit of the New Age composers who sanded off the edges of their synths’ sawtooth waves. Aporia approximates a rich soundtrack from an imagined sci-fi epic brimming with moody, hooky, gauzy synthesizer soundscapes, suggesting the progeny of a John Carpenter, Wendy Carlos, and Mike Oldfield marriage -- but it stands apart from these touchstones and generates a meditative universe all its own.

WAXAHATCHEE "Saint Cloud"

OUT ON MERGE RECORDS.

Waxhatchee’s Saint Cloudis an unflinching self-examination whose raw, exposed narrative terrain is aided by a shift in sonic arrangements. While her last two records (Out in the Storm and Ivy Tripp) featured the kind of big guitars, well-honed noise, and battering sounds that characterized her Philadelphia scene and strongly influenced a burgeoning new class of singer-songwriters, Saint Cloud strips back those layers to create space for Katie Crutchfield’s voice and lyrics. The result is a classic Americana sound with modern touches befitting an artist who has emerged as one of the signature storytellers of her time.

WUW "Rétablir L'Eternité"

OUT ON PROSTHETIC RECORDS.

Second album from French minimalistic contemporary experimentalists, WuW. A sprawling soundtrack which indulges in post metal whilst being firmly rooted in a darker undercurrent of heavy progressive and psychedelic krautrock. For appreciators of Neurosis, King Crimson and Godspeed! You Black Emperor.
